What is a Year Back in AKTU?
A "Year Back" (or Year Drop) in AKTU means a student fails to meet the minimum academic criteria to be promoted to the next academic year. In this case, the student must repeat the entire year.
Promotion Criteria (How to Avoid Year Back)
To be promoted to the next academic year (e.g., from 1st Year to 2nd Year), you must satisfy the following conditions:
- Credits Required: You must secure a minimum number of credits (usually 50% of the total credits for that year) across both semesters combined.
- CGPA Requirement: A minimum CGPA (usually 5.0 for B.Tech) is required to be promoted without being detained.
- PCP (Passed with Carry Paper): If you fail in a few subjects but meet the overall credit/CGPA criteria, your result status will be PCP. You are promoted to the next year but must give Carry Over exams for the failed subjects.
What happens if you get a Year Back?
If you get a year back, you cannot attend classes for the next year. You will have to re-register as an ex-student, appear for all the internal and external exams of the failed subjects, and clear them to proceed.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How many subjects can I fail without getting a year back in AKTU?
It depends on the total credits. Generally, if you clear 50% of the total yearly credits and maintain the minimum CGPA, you are promoted with PCP status regardless of the number of failed subjects.
Q: What is the meaning of PCP in AKTU result?
PCP stands for 'Passed with Carry Papers'. It means you are promoted to the next year, but you have backlogs that you need to clear later.
